The owners of Blossom must have a thing about doors.  Or perhaps its feng shui.  To enter the downtown outpost of Blossom, you don’t enter through the obvious door, the one adjacent to the dining room—but instead, you open the door that looks as if it leads to a private home, whereupon you enter a vestibule with a staircase in front of you and the dining room to the right.  And in the middle of Blossom Café’s uptown dining room, there’s a door leading into Kidville, NY—in case vegetarian parents might like to park their children there while finding their culinary zen.   But no matter which rabbit hole you use to slide into Blossom, you’ll be glad you came for their lip-smacking take on organic vegan cuisine.

The winner of Time Out
New York’s 2008 Eat Out award for “Best Vegetarian Restaurant,” both Blossoms offer its rightfully renowned BLT, a perfectly-stacked, Dagwood sandwich layered with crispy southern fried tofu, tempeh bacon, lettuce, tomato, and spicy mayo on ciabatta bread.  Served with Cajun sweet potato fries, this is a sandwich evoking some of the most delicious memories of the New Orleans Jazz Festival.  There’s also a yummy southern seitan sandwich, a combination of spiced seitan with caramelized onions, avocado, and chipotle aioli.  This is the kind of food that could make your carnivorous friends consider why they eat animals at all.

As for the décor, both of the Blossom dining rooms are a far cry from the college campus granola zen that sometimes intimidates carnivores and omnivores.  With wood floors and a sleek counter laden with desserts looking as decadent as those at Magnolia Bakery, Blossom Café radiates a cool urban vibe.  And with food this wholesome and good, it’s no wonder you’re surrounded by people as good-looking as you.
