Ever since the Meatpacking District was overtaken by Carrie and her gals (and now that Florent has packed it up—Florent, we hardly knew ye…), abattoirs have sprung up all over town offering sloppy, bloody burgers.  Fortunately for those of us who appreciate animals too much to eat them, 5 Napkin Burger offers a platterful of veggie burger, served with fries—and enough condiments and dressings to be considered a side salad.

5 Napkin is one of those restaurants connected to the Tour de France Group, by way of partners Simon Oren and chef Andy D’Amico.  Along with Marseille at the block’s southern end, and Nizza next door, 5 Napkin Burger makes for three aces on the same block—and a perfect stop on your way home from the theatre.  Expect white cloth napkins to wipe your messy face, and white porcelain-tile walls—and meat hooks running along the ceiling.  Ignore the hooks (and the attendant images of dead animals) and focus on your veggie burger, which is fresh and well seasoned.  The crowd is eclectic, in that comforting New York style—so many different types living in such close proximity—and all of us bound together by good food and conviviality late at night.  Order a Guinness and toast to the city you love.
