When the men sail away, the boyz come out to play—or that’s
certainly how it seemed on Sunday night of MLK weekend at CLICK.
With Alan T., all flawless face, doing runway at the door, you could
rest assured that the crowd inside was equally fierce and
fashionable. Every Miami art student was there! It was Sequin
City: sequin jackets and sequin hats and sequin headbands, in shades
of pink and purple, acid green and red. The party was clearly a
reunion of all current and former students of Miami Fashionista
High—thanks, in part, to Heatherette’s Richie Rich,who was the
party’s guest host (werqing his own pink tam-o’shanter).
With an EDGE Nightlife Award fresh under his belt (Best Promoter
on the
EDGE 2007),
Omar G. orchestrates this weekly party with a subtle hand, werking
the energy into a bubbly froth of celebration. Along with Dustin,
who’s obviously the Elsa Maxwell of his generation (Look it up,
kidz!), the two of them mingle and schmooze—with one
well-trained eye focused on what’s about to happen next. Their
attention to detail keeps the party on the up and up, good energy
building to a relentless climax—about to pop. Maybe it’s something
to do with the sparklers announcing bottle service or the flashing
paparazzi lights, but this party makes it perfectly clear: We’re
all having a moment—and it’s DELICIOUS!
And around one am, when DJ Power Infiniti took the decks, werking
“Let Freedom Reign,” in honor of the Reverend, it was hard not to
think ahead. Here it was, January 20, 2008—and in twelve months, to
the very day, we would indeed be free!—whereupon, Power threw down
“Unspeakable Joy.” Amen to that. Because you can’t look around this
party and not feel the joy. The boyz, their girlz, they’re all so
happy to be here. They’ve dressed—with detail: chains and belts,
buckles and bracelets, hats and hair. They’ve werked their way out
the house and into the club—and in gazing at Power in the booth,
resplendent in her thigh-high leather platforms and her red satin
Gucci track shrug, sequined unicorn atop her head, you couldn’t help
but think: Fashion cues from the deejay!
And then those girlz! Chyna Girl looking drop-dead glama, channeling
that blaxploitation heroine, Cleopatra Foxy Brown Jones—and no
sooner had she parted the crowd, there appeared the two
SINsational gals, Joey Arias and Sherry Vine, fresh from their
one-night only performance at Spiegeltent at 21st and
Collins, surprising Richie Rich with their entrance, just as Power
busted out, “Ladies with an attitude. Don't just stand there, let's
get to it.” Everyone having a moment—there it was, again.
Even that delectable model last seen showcasing Red Carter’s
swimwear on Euclid Circle. Everyone having a moment—all of
us celebrating. CLICK, CLICK! You’re IT!
